The Beasts
That’s what I learned from the play last Sunday. Emman dela Cruz (film-writer of Sarongbangi), invited me to watch the play “Lulu” at UP’s Guerrero Theater. His friend Angeli Bayani (portrayed Geschwitz?), a theater actress, reserved tickets for us. That was my first time to meet them both.
Is there any moral to the story? I don’t know. I was too ignorant, I think as I struggled following the sequence of the different scenarios in the play; or was I just confused? That was my first time to watch such kind of play. There was a naked beast! LOLZ! Truly R-18 play. And the Beast? That just summarizes what I have reflected from the play. And I can’t elaborate it further whether it was the beast in me that prevailed or the beast being portrayed in the play who got my attention.I had a sleepless night after that play. Introspection came again…
Maybe the characters; unique from each other in the story, captured the realities of every human longing and inclination. And those characters possess concupiscence that sometimes, too late to realize that they themselves fall into their own trap made for others. Are we victims of our own existence? I don’t think so. We are given the freedom to mold our own destiny; we decide, we face the consequences, we reap what we sow. Fall of the humanity happened because we gave in. Temptations have nothing to do by itself but the time we give in, we commit and feel the immediate effect of sin. That ancient sin now we feel, not that ancient sin itself, but the consequences of that sinfulness: disobedience and pride. No, the play didn’t mention anything about my latest lesson to my students. It’s just somehow related… What a tragedy for Lulu! She who is attractive, innocent and guileless knows what does it mean by deception. Period.
Absurd it may seems, but my words here would be worthless unless you understand what kind of beast I encountered in me or the beast that stared at me last Sunday; the beast that woke me up and never let me sleep in peace again up to the moment. It was the naked truth.
Thanks God, I was dreaming. If there’s a beast, there’s someone who tames it.
Just another absurd reflection of me. Thanks a lot to Emman dela Cruz and to Ms. Angeli Bayani for inviting me. Napakahusay po talaga ng inyong stage play, “Lulu.” Images here taken from Angeli Bayani’s site. Visit her site for more.

there are “beasts” in every person. however, being aware of the “beasts” in us is the first step to conquer, overcome and tame them. as human persons we can always transcend from our imperfections and tendecies if we are fully focus on achieving the purpose for which we are created.

gusto ko rin mapanood. waha.
dami ko natutunan sa reflection mo Kuya. napapaisip rin tuloy ako ngayon.
ang daling takasan nung beast natin, pero at the end of the day, kailangan pa rin natin ‘to harapin.
kailangan lang natin makilala yung tutulong sa’tin sa pagharap sa kanya.
