Never Too Late

Jun 3rd, 2009 by brVince | 1

It’s an old yet new experience to have a “cosmic walk” again. I’ve been to this walk in other ways nga lang but this time, it’s another reflections and experiences while walking along together with the Marist School personnel  who are in a three-day retreat (Institutional retreat before classes start). What struck me most is the new experience of going through it again. It gave me an opportunity to look at the cosmic world in a different perspective.

Cosmic walk, as it is being called by our retreat facilitators, was being developed by Sr. Miriam Therese Macgills, which was inspired by the “New Story” told by Thomas Berry. It is to let the participants experience the sense of wonder and awe to God’s creation, to the creativity of the universe.

At first, I honestly admit that I became uninterested when we were told how the ‘walk’ is to be done. But as of the moment, I can see that this ‘walk’ is important to me as I reflect on my daily lifestyle, on how do I appreciate God’s presence in his creation. The Divine power that existed and still existing to all things, seen and unseen, is undeniable. During the small-group-sharing, I found out that I was not the only one expressing disinterestedness with what we have done. I just appreciate other participant’s thoughts and feelings when I was challenged to make a move for the mother nature as a Christian. In what little ways can I say that I am a responsible steward of God’s creation. I almost blamed the people who misinterpreted the Bible, particularly my old catechism, that man has been given power over all creatures. But the idea of “stewardship” became clearer to me when I joined the formation to religious life… We become “tagapag-alaga” of God’s creation, and not to be the cause of destructions

This is not too late to make a pledge and to do the pledge I made to be responsible in my own little ways to take care of God’s creation. I am part of it, and everything will end, and life will also end. Is he not the God of life? Then it is not too late to be life-giver to others. By becoming an example to other people how to take care of our nature in little ways, we can glorify our Creator. Segrating our garbages properly, refraining from using plastic materials or non-biodegradeable materials are just some ways how to do it. And there are a lot of many ways to help save our environment from quick destruction.

More of my reflections about our institutional retreat later…. Enjoy reading!
