192 Years of Living Marcellin's Dream
The Marist Brothers around the world celebrate the foundation day of the congregation today. In January 2, 1817, Saint Marcellin Champagnat gathered the first Brothers to be educators as he felt the need of more teachers during his time. In one of his letters to Queen Marie-Amélie (Queen of the French, 1768–1845), Father Champagnat related to her the difficult experiences he had when he as still a young boy, for lack of teachers.
He had already the thought of founding the Marist Brothers but it was only after administering the last sacrament to a dying lad that he decided to found the society for the Christian education of the young. With two young men, Father Marcellin laid the foundation of the Little Brothers of Mary. And today, after 192 years “sa awa ng Diyos,” the Brothers of Father Marcellin continue to live his dream for the greater glory of God: to be in every diocese around the world. The Marist Brothers of the Schools continues to serve in 75 countries around the world, making Jesus and Mary known and loved.
The Marist community here at Notre Dame of Kidapawan College, celebrated the foudnation day with the Eucharist officiated by Fr. Jerry, DCK. The Champagnat Movement of Marist Family (CMMF) facilitated the celebration and “kungting salo-salo” for the community. It was attended by the administrators and staff of the school community.
