First Periodical Examination of IBED high school students of Notre Dame of Kidapawan College is fast approaching. This will be on August 20, 21, 22 and 23. This month, we also celebrate the “Buwan ng Wika.” Of course, the Assumption Day of Mary, which all Catholics, that includes our school, celebrate it by out-reach programs. We have adapted places for extension programs of the school…. Some students are happy about it… Basta lang… walang pasok by that day, sabi nila! Pero we will be having a cleanliness drive inside and around the campus by that day.

I promised my students for the pointers… Mahirap daw ang subject na tinuturo ko sa kanila. Di ko naman sinasabi na subject ito, but a way of life. What made it difficult? Dahil siguro di kayo nag-review ng notes or walang pumapasok sa kukute n’yo? Pointers for Values 7 and 8 will be given, syempre. But Not this time… As what I told you earlier, we will have our regular lesson until Thursday, then continued next week before the examination days. For private message, contact me here. So here are the pointers, just>>>

Values 7-First Year students

Lesson 1: Review your notes about the life of St. Marcellin Champagnat and the Marist Core Values; remember the significant dates from the time he was born up to the time he died. This would include names of important people and places; parents, co-priests and first Little Brothers of Mary, the place of his birth and first parish assignment. In other words, questions related to his biography might be asked from you, which is not limited to what are the relevance of his charism in our present time and how would you respond to the challenges of the present time. This part of lesson is given through “Fill-in the Blank, Matching Type, Multiple Choice and Essay. FOR THE SECOND YEARS, this explanation/pointer apply to you also…

Lesson 2: Basic Prayers. You might be asked about the different expressions of Prayers and the different prayers of the Church. You must learn by heart what does it mean by prayer and how to pray; the different forms. Again, this will be given through Multiple choice, Fill-in the blank and matching type, except for essay.

Lesson 3 to 4: What would be your attitude towards your own religion? For my Non-Christian students (Moslems) The same idea about your religion might be asked. Bear in mind that the test questions are on the last page of the test paper. Recall what does religion is asking/demanding from us. We studied/discussed also the creation story, our role as stewards and that God created us in his own image and likeness, thus our human dignity comes from God which every individual must respect.  Our topic about faith this week is already included for this First Periodical Test. Same thoughts with the SECOND YEAR students’ lesson on the story about Bartemaeus, how Jesus showed mercy to this blind man. If we try to continue, recall also how Adam and Eve got a second chance after committing disobedience and pride. Paano ba talaga sila nagkasala?

This examination, remember, is to test you whether you learned from our topics. This is not the consequence of being “sabaan” sa klase (sometimes, ing-ana gyud akoang ideya ba…?)

Values 8 – Second Year Students

We started the Lesson 1 with the topic, “Jesus is Born.” You must try to understand incarnation, on how the Word became flesh and entered into human history. The meaning of Messiah and the life awaiting him. Mary played a role into this grand plan of the Father: her willingness; fiat gave way for Jesus to be born, the theotokos, remember? After Jesus’

birth, he was baptized by John at the Jordan river, he is the anointed…. This baptism’s meaning in our lives as Christians must be understood. How do we share into the Church’s mission? With Christ? He became our true brother, but in what way?

We must accept the reality of pain and suffering as part of being human. Thus, you must understand Jesus’ cup of suffering as his redemptive act for us. He is the Savior. He agonized at the garden of Gethsemane and asked the Father to take away this cup of suffering, yet he said, “…not mine, but your will be done…” Do you still need to be reminded about the famous deadly sins? At least you must know that sin is what makes us separated from the love of God. But despite of our sinfulness, God never abandons us. Jesus was tempted but never gave up to the temptations of power, fame and material/temporal things on earth. We must be strong enough to resist temptations. Being tested is different; this helps us grow mature in faith. Jesus taught us to be merciful and kind to others; I’m talking about the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. By the way, who among the disciples were with Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane?

For the essay, focus on Christ’s brotherhood with us and the cup of suffering. For the life of Marcellin, just read the pointers for the first year students, pareho ra man pud sa ilaha… Goodluck!

Ah wait! Yung mga reflection/journal notebooks n’yo… Hwag kalilimutan that you must have at least 8 to 9 reflection entries since we started last June… Mahalaga po ang mga iyan sa inyong paglalakbay, naks! Hehehe…..

For the Non-Christians, basahin nyo na rin yung nasa itaas na pointers for the First Years….
