Genogram: Digging the History of Celeste Clan in Calinog

Aug 7th, 2007 by brVince | 5

Vince's BishopBeing worried for few days now, I got to see my relative yesterday, the director of Sta. Catalina college at Legarda in Manila. She has the copy of a book “Calinog, The Story of a People.” This is a compilation of Family Trees of different families in Calinog, collected by Dolores De Los Reyes Ravena in 1996; second volume. This will solve my worries for the meantime. Sr. Ana Celestial, OP lend me the book for my assignment in Pastoral Counseling about my family background. Genogram is a difficult task if I don’t have the resources just like this. In short, I will be analyzing my ascendants’ history, particularly my father’s family. I can’t believe that our ancestors were offspring of Datu Paiburong, as what the book says. I am doubtful but inspired to dig for more information as detailed as I can. Celeste family might be a small group in a bigger clan from Calinog but I’m happy that our family history is being kept and still passed on to the new generations of our clan.

I’ve never been to Calinog personally, and that is a very good reason I have to communicate with Captain Remegio Celeste, my grandfather’s cousin. An excerpt from the book about San Nicolas, one of the barangays in Calinog where my family came says that:

This was once called barrio Baje Ilawod during the Spanish era. It was then headed by late Nicolas Catolico Celeste. Under his leadership, the name of the barangay was changed to Baje San Nicolas… A school was founded here and the first teacher was Cristita Celeste, who just passed away last summer 2007. Past and present barangay leaders are the following cabezas de barangay, Nicolas Catolico and Zacarias Celeste; Tenientes del barrio Graciano Salarza, Jesus Celeste… Inocencio Catroverde and Honofre Celeste.

0cm" align="justify">My grandfather, Jonas Celeste told me when he was still alive, that Nicolas Celeste was our great-great-grandfather. I don’t know true it is and how to find out thow it came to be but I’m hoping that this ongoing project of mine will let me appreciate and thank our forefathers of the Celeste Clan in Calinog. I heard about Myrna Celeste, Luz Celeste, Eusebio, Jose Celeste, Crispulo, Cesario, even a Bishop Emmanuel Celeste Trance and many other influential elders in our clan but never met them. I hope that one day, with the help of my readers, I will meet my contemporaries in San Nicolas, Calinog.

As of this time, I’m looking for more detailed sources from anybody who knows about the Celeste clan in Calinog. If anyone to knows or have informations more than what I stated above, please help me with this. You may send me email or by calling me at 09186633823. Thank you.

On this day..

theres a lot of Celeste in Facebook connected to each other. Using the real name can be good to trace the clan. I am married with Aristeo Lorenzo Celeste and my Paps in law is from Calinog if you know Atty. Jose T.Celeste. We are residing in Manila for a very long time My husband was raised here in Manila. He and his sisters and brothers finished their colleges degrees here and the youngest Juan Silverio is now residing in New Zealand with his 3 kids and wife. When Tatay was still alive, i remembered, they celebrate family reunion in Mindanao,I was left here coz i am pregnant that time.. Then after 4 years the reunion was in Tigbauan. I was there and its a surprising to know some of the clans. It’s a very close tight clan you can say happy and lots of fun.
Now we call our family here as ABCO….Alba, Buban, Celeste and Onasa family. ABCO of Manila.
If you have facebook account you can connect us there. My eldest Dana Iskra Celeste is now married to Ivan Joseph Claver. His Mom also from Tigbauan with a family name Teroel. (don’t know the spelling lol)
    See you there !!!

I belong to the 3rd generation from Nicolas Celeste of Calinog, Iloilo. Although your father-in-law’s name sounds very familiar, I am very interested in his genealogy. The Celeste in Calinog is a big clan. As part of our effort to trace the ancestry, we are not able yet to determine if Lolo Nicolas had siblings. Who are the siblings of Atty. Jose Celeste? Who are his parents from Calinog? Maybe you can help us fill the missing links. Thank you.
