Celebrating human life is celebrating life with God itself when it is rooted in the wisdom of following God’s will in our lives. For me, enjoying life is not a mere pleasure but a satisfaction of what God wants us to become, that we are able to surpass sufferings and understand what suffering means to us: that it is saying that God is always with us. The wisdom that reveals God interacts with us and he speaks to the humanity (Prov 1:20-33). Worshiping God through his creation is telling us to be integrated with the whole creation, caring and be stewards of his creation, and being in solidarity with other people. Including the aged people, honoring the parents especially when they are old.
In my own culture, integrity of creation is given importance yet as the years are passing by, integrity is deteriorating. One example of destruction due to human negligence is what happened to Guimaras where this massive oil spill happened. And now, nobody is taking the initiative to clean the ocean spill, thus this incident is not worshiping God through his creation. Humans are responsible, as co-creator (Gen 1, 2) and yet we were not able to do wisely the plans of God. On the other hand, the respect for people are still inculcated in the mind of my own culture. The trait that is dominant and still existing is the close-family ties. Filipinos are known to be hospitable and responsible with their elders. This is a practice that even before the Spaniards came, was already practice. They have seen the image of God in the family relationships. As the commandment says, “honor your father and your mother” is valued and nourished by the generation in spite of the society’s gradual change in the midst of the influences of other culture.
In my own life, being aware of God’s ever loving presence helps me to pray for the whole creation in many ways. Praying is not only present with them but being at home with the nature, with the people and the whole creation in many simple ways. It’s a challenge for the fact that it requires effort, but effort ends as effort when it is totally done by heart and whole mind, in respect and worship with God. Life is a worship itself when it is lived according to God’s plan.
