Children's and fatherhood?

Oct 10 2006

Our last activity for this semester with the children from our respective apostolate assignment was the AFA Prayer (Apostolic Formative Activity). It was indeed an experience worthy to reflect on as we always strive for the best of others. For six months of playing, praying and teaching the children about the basic tenets of faith, we were able to gather them in our creative ways to pray. Today, we gather some children for prayer, some talked infront, shared about their experiences and presented intermission numbers. We had also our dinner together and happily ended the day right by a prayer of praise in our own hearts…i did.

During this activity, one brother gave his impression… “bro, tatay na tatay ka talaga kanina habang kumakain tayo!” Then I recalled the scenarios when I became like a father. I was just caring to my kids, giving them their chosen food from my plate and asking them what they want as if I was their real father. Did I feelt it right? Was I happy? Yeah, I was! I was happy for them that they were here with us to pray.  Yet the way I was told, i was also glad about it while recalling the child from Balubad, my earlier assignment. She asked her mother if I’m her father. I was thinking again about the challenges of being a consecrated, about being a brother to all… and about my way of life.

[...] Twice I reflected, wrote and dedicated a song for my father but never mentioned about my mother except about Mary, the mother of Jesus, a typical Jew, a faithful, simple, humble and modest woman of her time. I am impelled to write about my own mother when I found that a mother, who is trying to balance her motherhood, being a wife and a student, was able to come across my reflections. [...]
