Childhood memory: God's faithfulness

Nov 08 2006

I have a childhood memory that made me mature in thinking and in faith. This was the memory of reciting the first poem my father taught me. Its title was “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” The poem was all about how beautiful God’s creation is, how he created all things beautifully and wisely from flowers to birds, from rivers and the mountains, the sunset and the sunrise. Even I was still in grade one, that poem taught me how to appreciate the creation of God and somehow helped me grow in faith.

My father was the one who encouraged me to recite the poem during our recognition day. He explained what it meant and described what it was all about. I was quite nervous, but my father helped me to recite the poem eloquently in front of so many people. From projection to pronunciation, I practiced patiently while my mother and sister was there as my audience.

During the day of recognition, I enthusiastically recited the poem. Many kids were listening and I was very sure that they attentively listened to me because the poem was a new one. After the recognition, my teacher congratulated me and my classmates ask for explanation of the poem and I gladly shared how beautiful God’s creation.

Moreover, from that time on, I began to reflect what the poem meant to me until such time that I realized that is speaks about my present life. The most important is, at that early age, I already began to explore God’s creation in my surrounding.

  2. All things bright and beautiful
    All creatures great and small
    All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all

    Each little flower that opens
    Each little bird that sings
    He made their glowing colors
    He made their tiny wings

    The purple-headed mountain
    The river running by
    The sunset and the morning
    That brightens up the sky

He gave us eyes to see them
And lips that we might tell
    How great is God Almighty
Who has made all things well

    ito ba yun bro?

    Dampa *bow*

    Maliit na dampa
    Mukhang maralita
    Dingding ay may sira
    Ang hagdan ay giba
    Walang kasangkapan
    Wala ring upuan
    Ngunit kapag ikaw ay dumalaw
    Dulot sa daratal
    Pusong nagmamahal.

    Hehehe

Memorize naming magkakapatid yan kasi turo sa kindergarten na pinasukan naming lahat ;)
